I love to empower these types of business leaders to thrive and prosper while doing good.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Step 4: How does your company do what it does?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Describe how your business operates generally, but not a detailed description of your business&#8217;s physical operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Take a moment to think of the core values that are important to you as they are expressed in your business.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Focus on your business&#8217;s\u00a0core competencies\u00a0while considering which values are worthy of being part of your mission statement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Here some examples of my company\u2019s core values:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Professionalism and Expertise<\/strong>. I provide high-quality coaching and customer service. I serve each client with my specialized knowledge and skills, with honesty, loyalty, and integrity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Learning. <\/strong>I\u2019m continually educating myself to improve my services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Environmental Sustainability<\/strong>. You also need to communicate to customers or clients why they would want to do business with you.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">For example, show the benefits your business offers and communicate them internally to your employees and externally to your customers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Make sure your mission statement is highly visible somewhere on your business premises, on your website, and on all your marketing materials.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">A good mission statement is an operations manual.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Coherent mission statements<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Based on my analysis of many mission statements, they often consist of the latest buzzwords or business jargon and\/or have unrealistic or unattainable goals, all of which can negatively affect employee morale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">That\u00b4s why it is important to have a coherent and realistic mission statement. You can then engage your employees and fulfill your company\u00b4s\u00a0goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #00ccff;\"><strong>What makes a successful mission statement?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">It is short, to the point, and memorable.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Like a tagline, it sticks in the mind of a person when they hear<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">or read it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">It identifies your company as one that a customer would want<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">to do business with.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Examples of inspiring mission statements:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u21d2 <\/strong><strong>Patagonia: <\/strong>\u201cBuild the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><em>Comment: This statement combines both the values that bring them market success (building safe, high-quality products) and the values that contribute to a better world.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u21d2 <\/strong><strong>Tesla:<\/strong> &#8220;Our mission is to accelerate the world&#8217;s transition to sustainable energy.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><em>Comment: The use of the world \u201caccelerate\u201d makes this statement special. Tesla\u00b4s main interest isn\u00b4t just car sales, it is the promotion of an environmentally-friendly and sustainable way to travel (core value) by using renewable energy sources. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Exercise: Create your own<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Your mission statement should serve as an overall guide for how you run your business and how your business interacts with the world around it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Now it\u2019s time to write your own. Get out a piece of paper and give it a try.
